Osteopath or Chiropractic care helpful to symptoms?

Hi everyone

I was wondering if anyone has experience having treatment from either osteopath or chiropractor and whether you feel it was of benefit to your arthritic symptoms?

At the moment, I'm on Humira but looking at MTX injections added in later this month which I'm now planning to defer :/ have been on oral MTX about 12 years ago and despite assurances from the rheumatologist, I am reluctant to go back to it even it does improve the efficacy of my Humira because I'm struggling with low immunity as it is already along with the side effect profile of MTX. Can't afford the time off work for coughs and colds but can struggle in with aches and pains.
Obviously the cost of either treatment option means I can't afford both and will need to belt tighten to do one anyway, so I'm hopeful of some shared experiences to help me make a more informed decision.
Thank you for sharing in advance 😀

  1. Hi . I know you posted this a long time ago and I apologize. Some posts got lost when we switched to a new platform. I wanted to check in to see whether you ever got answers to your question. In case it is still something you are thinking about, I wanted to share with you this article from one of our advocates: https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/living/chiropractic-care-pain-management-plan. 1. Hi , I realise this was an old question that has been bumped to the top recently. I read on another thread that you have recently stopped your full time work and achieved a new qualification - congratulations on these momentous achievements! It is hard to leave a "good job" even when you know it is not helping your condition, but it sounds like you have a plan that will see you making a difference in an field you love!

I wanted to say that I currently see a chiropractor to assist with shoulder, wrist, back and hip pain - my rheumatologist encourages me to take a multi-pronged approach. My chiro is also trained in physiotherapy, is knowledgeable about psoriatic arthritis and is really skilled at helping me manage specific pain flares. He gives me gentle stretches to do depending on what is happening and also put me onto lying on a long roller lengthwise doing gentle stretches for 10 minutes a few times a week to help keep my back and shoulders lined up.

Like many others I have had symptoms for sometime before I was diagnosed - when I was pregnant, I had really good results with an osteopath who helped me treat terrible sciatica pain - she was an absolute lifesaver and if I still lived nearby I would continue to see her.

In short, both chiro or osteo have been really helpful for me. They are slightly different in their approach. I would try to get a local referral from a trusted friend.

All the very best to you.
