Now what do I do?
I have always been a summer baby. Since being diagnosed with this awful auto-immune disease, it's much more prevalent.
Swimming helps my joints
All summer long, actually from mid-April to mid-October, I swim in a heated, saltwater pool. I saved money for 40 years working hard, so when we moved into our forever home, I had it built. I KNOW how fortunate I am, but keep in mind the forty damn years of very hard work, after many years of education, including graduate school. So yes, I damn well earned my lovely swimming pool. I finally retired in November 2020, and love that I get into my pool every day to stretch and work out my extremely painful joints. This has been my Godsend!
I've taken LONG summer vacations while still working, simply to allow longer weeks using my pool, and feeling good. I've saved PTO time when working, specifically to have time off during summers as best as possible.
I wasn't even so upset when Covid caused me to work from home – even though my career was grueling, I was still able to swim more.
So why am I complaining? Because it's damn October, and my pool just closed. ((insert MAJOR frown emoji.... and tears))
Barriers to the right regimen for my psoriatic arthritis
I've worked so damn hard this year losing weight, and starting a new food and exercise lifestyle since March 2021. And YES, it has worked. I do feel a little better some days, but clearly, I'm still suffering greatly. Maybe after a LOT more weight loss, I'll be even better... So I pray every day... And continue with my lifestyle changes.
Gyms with pools are so bloody expensive and not affordable in my area. My rheumy and GP just wrote me a script for Aqua PT, but sadly, many pools/swim tanks are fully booked. So I sit here, on October 19, complaining. And looking for help.
Has anyone found anything that has helped them as much as swimming? Any ideas for clubs in Bergen County NJ or aqua PT places? HELP!
Thanks for any assistance that can be offered, and thanks for listening to my "swimming problems."
