Bananas & Humira?

I’m on Humira, just started 3 months ago. It’s a TNF blocker. I just learned that the more brown spots a banana has the more TNF it contains. Does this mean I should not be eating these bananas?

  1. Hi ! TNF is a very complex protein that (to the best of my knowledge) is only produced by animals and not plants. I'm familiar with the Facebook meme, but I think it's been debunked (i.e. the Japanese researchers don't claim anywhere in their paper that bananas have TNF). That being said, it might be worth a quick call to your Rheumatologist if you are unsure. If you do give them a call, please let us know what you find out!
