Warm or Cool Weather

I have always heard that the cold irritates arthritis. I actually feel better once the humid Chicago summers are gone. The colder dry weather brings less joint pain and inflammation. Does anyone else find the same?

  1. I'm a few hours south of you and agree that the hot, humid summers here are awful for pain and inflammation. I'm relatively new to sultry IL summers and I am not a fan. Late summer is called "corn sweat" season by the natives. Cute name. Still awful weather. Our neighbor loves this weather and says it's like "being wrapped in a warm, wet blanket". Gross!

My husband's company relocated us here from Santa Fe, NM. The stable climate of NM without a lot of humidity was much better for my achin' joints.

How do you feel if its cooler but humid? That's yucky for me too. A damp cold seems to sink right into my bones.

    1. I'm totally in agreement. Cool/cold dry weather keeps my inflammation way down especially in the hands and feet.

      1. Me, too. I live in central NY and I feel less pain in the winter. It's the only good part of a NY winter. I also feel worse when the barometer is rising and the weather is getting better than when it's getting stormy and the barometer is going down.

        1. My experience has been that autumn and winter come with a slight increase in pain. There also seems to be a reaction to rain and damp.

All more noticeable this year, as I had to come off medication for a couple of weeks in mid-September due to Covid.
