Something strange and new that I am experiencing and am wondering if it's my psoriatic arthritis causing it.

Hey, I am new to this forum (today is my first time ever posting on here). I was diagnosed with PSA back in January 2019 and have been on a biologic ever since which seems to help. I have been experiencing a new issue which is numbness, pain and tingling in both hands and wrists for about six weeks now. It is much worse in my left hand at this point though. I feel the numbness and tingling constantly in my left hand and I wake up in the middle of the night and in the morning with the sensation of my hands being asleep but the pain associated with it is much worse than the normal "hand falling asleep" feeling. Has anyone else experienced this? I am curious if this is another possible symptom of my PSA.

  1. Hi . That must be a bit frightening. Have you talked with your doctor about it or at least put in a call to the rheumatologist's office? Any time you experience tingling or numbness, it is a nerve issue. In your case, since the symptoms are symmetrical, I would guess (just a guess) that the problem might be compression in your spine in the neck area. We are not medical experts, so I can't tell you for sure, but others with similar symptoms have found that to be the cause. Only a doctor can tell you whether it is PsA-related. It is always possible that it is caused by PsA joint damage, but it might also be an entirely different issue. Regardless, the sooner you get evaluated, the better. I hope you get answers and some relief. Keep us posted if you don't mind. I will be thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Thanks for your response. I have even wondered about carpel tunnel but my symptoms don't exactly match that either. I have an appointment with my doctor the first of February so I will discuss my issue then.

      1. Hi , sorry to read about everything you're dealing with. It sounds extremely painful and uncomfortable. I was able to find the following article from Holland (one of my fellow advocates) on tingling fingers: https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/living/numbness-tingling I hope this is of some help. I'm really glad to read that you have an appointment coming up next month - hopefully you can get some answers and find something that helps. Please keep us posted if you can. 1. Thank you for sending the link to this article. It was helpful and it sounds a lot like what I have been experiencing.
