Psoriasis skin everywhere! It's ruining my clothes!

Am I the only one with prolific shedding? Not only do I look like a walking summer sausage, I creak and ache. My feet are enormous. My biggest gripe is the damn skin. Not just flakes, but huge peeled, thin pieces of skin. Please help! I'm having to throw clothes away!

  1. How frustrating, . Are you taking medication to slow the progression of your PsA? An effective medication should clear up your skin as well. If that is not happening, you might want to switch to something new. For some people, medications are never fully effective. If that's the case for you, there are alternative treatments you can try for your skin. Here is an article from our sister community, PlaquePsoriasis.com, that lists the different treatments for psoriasis. The article includes links for phototherapy, home remedies and alternative and complimentary treatments. I hope this helps and that you get some relief. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Thank you Lori, I'm not on medication yet. I just have been diagnosed. You would think with the numbers of people with PsA, it wouldn't be such a diagnosticians mystery. It has taken 2.4 years to finally say, " We think you're sick". Amazing. This had to be the most frustrating, painful, disorder around. Has to be.

      1. Hi @CommunityMember645, I can hear how truly frustrated you are. It is so upsetting to not have answers for what is going on. I am glad you finally got a diagnosis, although I agree with you, why does it take so long!?! I am sending you over an article that I really hope can help you. We are here for you and understand. Please reach out when ever you need. Jill, Team Member

    2. Thanks Jill, I believe having the opportunity to share with fellow sufferers, is such a gift! As I am sure most would agree, this disease is usually oblivious to the outside world. And trying to explain to anyone, including physicians is a struggle. Some I have to deal with like the word " psychosomatic ". It is sinking to know something is wrong and no one else sees it!

      1. Hi . Sadly, many people with autoimmune disorders are told their symptoms are all in their heads. It can take a strong will, a lot of self-advocacy and a ton of patience to get an accurate diagnosis. I am glad you finally got the care you deserve. Your doctor should start you on a medication soon that is intended to both slow the progression of your PsA and clear your skin. Unfortunately, the whole medication thing is hit or miss. Doctors have no way of knowing which PsA medications will help which patients and you usually have to give each one about four months to find out. I hope you are one of those for whom the very first prescription is the one. Here is an article about PsA treatment protocols: https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/treatment/guidelines-options. It might helps to read up on them before your next appointment so you can make a more informed decision about your treatment. Fingers crossed! 3. Thank you! I am so happy to have you all to talk too! People experiencing the same, or have experienced these issues, are some of the best medicine.
