Positivity

Helloo!
I'm newly diagnosed and new to this group. So good to know there are people out there who understand how I feel - pretty devastated actually.
I'm a hiker and cyclist, have been for years and cannot imagine not climbing to see the view at the top of a mountain again.
The frustration of fatigue, swelling and pain are soul destroying.
I have a consultation with my rheumatologist in 2 weeks to talk about DMARDS.
I really need some positive support. I know it will be a struggle, but I also know that there are people out there who are living life to the full - advice and encouragement are very much needed at this time 😊

  1. Thanks so much for this Lori, it was exactly what I needed!

It’s a bit odd that I’m a dementia specialist and talk to people on a daily basis about coming to terms with their diagnosis, understanding it and to live life positively, when I find it too upsetting to read about my diagnosis (which cannot be compared to something terminal!)

My husband and I have always been very active, we plan to move to the Lake District for our retirement in a couple of years, climb lots of mountains and cycle with beautiful views. Part of me is determined not to give up on this, and the other half is quite depressed about it. I feel I’ve almost robbed my husband of his dreams also.

Your response is so positive and affirming, it makes me feel more positive and challenges my depression.

    With many thanks to you.

    Melissa

    1. Hi , welcome to the community, I'm glad you're here. I'm sure it's a lot to take in and a diagnosis can be hard to accept, especially when it's so fresh.

Many of our contributors have talked about the emotional impact of PsA, so you're definitely not alone in what you're feeling. Here are some articles if you are interested: https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/emotional-effects/.

I also shared your post with people in our community on Facebook and some had words of encouragement to share with you: https://www.facebook.com/PsoriaticArthritisDotCom/posts/1294824314236756.

Please know you're not alone in your journey living with psoriatic arthritis. The community is always here for you!
