Methotrexate

I haven't read anything in this forum/newsletter about methotrexate and breathing issues

  1. Hi Mixmez! It is possible for methotrexate to cause damage to the lining of the lungs (as I understand it), so if you experience any trouble breathing (coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, etc.) you should definitely get in to see your Rheumatologist or PCP ASAP. Is this a new symptom, or something you have experienced before?

    1. Oh, yes. That does tick a box that I know well. After we discovered lung issues with me, I was sent to a pulmonologist specializing in interstitial lung disease. It's not just methotrexate that can be deleterious to the lungs: Just about all of the d-mards & biologics can impact our lungs. Even PsA can be tough on the lungs. However, exercising & foing yoga deep breathing exercises can help strengthen the lungs. I can't be off of meds for my condition, but I am prone to pneumonia & other lung problems so after my last pneumonia bout I have really concentrated on lung strengthening.

      1. it sounds like you have been through an ordeal. I am glad to hear you are concentrating on lung strengthening. It is so scary to know things can deteriorate our lungs like that. Vickie W., Team Member
