Humira/Enbrel Peripheral Neuropathy

Hello,
I was on Humira for 10 years and in the past 2 started experiencing peripheral neuropathy symptoms such as numbness and tingling, pins and needles. I saw a neurologist and they did a pretty painful test but they couldn’t confirm or deny the link to Humira. My symptoms disappeared after I stopped Humira. Has anyone experienced these? I am concerned they may get worse and cause permanent damage. I am on Enbrel now ( first doze) and my symptoms are back.

  1. Hi . I have not seen anything in our community from anyone connecting Humira or Enbrel with the development of peripheral neuropathy , but there have been some lawsuits claiming a connection. I do not know the outcome of those lawsuits. It is always possible there is a connection, but peripheral neuropathy is also a common comorbidity for people with PsA and other autoimmune diseases. So it might also be a coincidence. If your confidence in Enbrel is shaky though, you might want try something else just to be sure. Wishing you the best. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. thank you! I think I will try Otezla next. I read in other forums that people experienced similar symptoms and got worse to the point they couldn't function or walk. I understand Otezla can be hard on your system at first. If anyone has tried it, can you share your experience. I would really appreciate it!

    2. Many of our members have taken Otezla with mixed results. That is the trouble with PsA medications. What helps one person won't necessarily have any impact at all on another, and doctors have no way of knowing which medications will help which patients. It can be a frustrating game of trial and error. I hope you get input from the community and that your body responds well to Otezla. Keep us posted if you feel comfortable doing so. Warmly, - Lori (Team Member)
