Join the Hashtag Community - #SpottingSpoons

Do you feel like the moments of joy and happiness are few and far between these days? It is easy to get overwhelmed focusing on the negative of living with psoriatic arthritis. Too often our pain ends up screaming much louder to us than the moments that make us smile.

It is time that the moments of happiness speak up and let their voices be heard.

How does a hashtag work?

Take a moment today and snap a pic of something that makes you happy, something that makes you smile, or something that makes your heart sing. Add it to social media using the hashtag #SpottingSpoons. Check out how others in the PsA community are #SpottingSpoons too!

What are “spoons?”

“Spoons” is a metaphor used in the chronic illness community to mean units of energy. The term was started by Christine Miserandino in 2003 when she was trying to explain how each day, we only wake with a certain amount of energy (spoons) and everything we do from getting out of bed to showering costs us spoons.

Why #SpottingSpoons? What does that mean?

I believe that if we choose, we can add more “spoons” to our day by paying attention to those moments that lift us up, the moments that give us the strength to carry on. When we add the hashtag #SpottingSpoons to an image, we use that image as a source of strength and inspiration.
