New to biologics

Good evening everyone! I am set to begin Humira this week and I am curious what to expect, anything to do in preparation, how long before I should expect to see improvement, any downfalls to be on the lookout for, etc etc etc. I am also wondering just how helpful diet play a part in all of this. I have heard differing opinions. Any insight and/or advice is appreciated! Thanks in advance!! Renee'

  1. Hey there, and welcome to the club!

I've been on Humira since December and I've been documenting my experience on this site under the title MY HUMIRA EXPERIENCE. It's only my experience - and everyone's is different - but it might give you some idea as to what to expect.

    1. Thank you for the welcome and the link Sean, I appreciate it and will check it out!

I have a Humira ambassador coming out on Friday to teach me about giving myself these shots. I am not a huge fan of this idea but I cannot continue to live in this pain either so with my daughter's help (she's an RN), we are going to learn together until I get comfortable doing it all on my own.

      1. The shots, in my opinion, are pretty easy. Use the self injecting pen if you can. It stings only VERY slightly for about 3 or 4 seconds and that's it. Easier than having to remember to take a pill every day if you ask me.

Little tip ... leave the pen out for a half an hour before you inject. When the serum warms up it stings less.

        1. I believe that is what I have. I have not opened the package they came in yet though. Thanks for the tip, I will definitely do that!

We shall see how this goes tomorrow afternoon!!
