What are your thoughts on Humira?

Hi everyone,

I would love to know your thoughts on Humira. Pros and cons. The good, the bad and the ugly. My Dr has decided to put me on this injection. I have heard this is a painful injection, any thoughts on this? Any advice?

I have psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. As a matter of fact, it is affecting my toenails which is new. I had to have my toenail removed. My scalp is a total mess and my entire body hurts joints and all. Anyway, I am on prednisone which seems to help and taking aleeve helps too. I am curious does anyone else have funky toenails and fingernails?

  1. Hi Kerry, many of our community members have shared their experiences with Humira in our forums. This is a helpful article to begin with: https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/topic/humira/. Also, feel free to search for Humira here: https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/forum/treatment-issues/ to pull up a bunch more stuff.
When does your doctor want you to start this treatment?

    1. My Dr. would like for me to start as soon as possible. BUT of course my insurance did not want to cover so we had to jump through hoops. So, my humira was approved but, I had to use the pharmacy they chose which is Accredo a mail order pharmacy. It has been a nightmare trying to get these people on the same page. Once your on the phone with them they all tell you different things. I have repeated the same information over and over and over. This has been an experience to say the least.

      1. - I saw you posted previously in one of our forums about your doctor prescribing humira. Were you able to get started and if so, how has your experience been?

        1. So far it has been fine. The injection was not painful. I was having a few side affects but today I feel pretty good! Now as far as psoriasis goes I have not noticed a change yet. I do my second injection this weekend. I think I will know more as I have a few injections under my belt. The only concern that I have is that is lowers the immune system. I work at a University with a lot of germs and sick people. (during flu season etc) People do not like to stay home when they are sick!

        2. Hi - By now, I'm guessing you have some additional injections under your belt. How's everything been going?

University is definitely not an easy place to avoid germs/sickness!

      2. I saw that this was posted a few months ago but wanted to share. I have been on Humira for 10 years, since 21, and I too worry about being immuno-compromised. I have been lucky and dont get sick a ton but I take precautions like washing my hands all the time and keeping things as sanitized as I can. The new humira shots without citrate are awesome. I dont even feel the injection anymore. Even so, the original wasnt too bad. Hoping things get better for you!

        1. Hi Heather,
The humira seems to be working okay. I am a few months in now and I am still having pain in a few areas. I guess it can't be perfect right? I feel like the thing that bothers me the most is feeling tired and fatigued. I used to be so energetic! I guess we cannot have everything....one day at a time.
