Do you feel better after few weeks taking MTX?

I've been taking MTX (12.5mg) for 3 months but I still have this discomfort around my knee and shoulders, but not too much. I am also avoiding gluten and sugar now.

What's your experience been?

  1. Nope it hasnt helped me either and I've been on it for 7 months

    1. Hi , thanks for your reply. As for me, still feeling discomfort but not too much. Though my nails are getting smooth already, not sure if because of MTX or bec I have also changed my diets. No sugar and red meats. Healthy smoothie every morning and more veggies and fruits for lunch and dinner 😀

    2. I will say diet and exercise does help. I feel like the more you move the better off you are. I am glad the MTX works for you. I had alot of side affects.

  2. MTX did not help me at all. My Dr. switched me to humira, which is a biologic that you inject. It has helped my skin and I do have a little pain still.

    1. I have been taking methotrexate for around 18 months now. I definitely noticed *some* difference by four months (this was when I had my first check up with my rheumy since starting it), but it definitely hadn't reached its full potential for me yet... Unfortunately I cannot remember how long it took for it to make a significant difference. Are you due to catch up with your rheumatologist anytime soon, ? How are the dietary changes going?

      1. Hi thanks for your reply. I had my follow up check up 1 week ago, he said it will take time to see the results. Still need to continue taking the meds. And as per my experience on MTX, never experienced any side effects of MTX compare to what I read in this group, lucky me...My knee is better now compared to the time I posted my question and I noticed my nails (coz I also have psoriasis on my nails) they are becoming smooth already.
My diet still on going, blueberries, kale, spinach, banana and celery smoothie every morning. And i replace rice to quinoa, more veggies, salmon and chicken breast...haven't eaten pork and beef for 2months now,

      2. I'm glad to hear you haven't had any side effects, ! I seem to have been quite lucky with regards to side effects (some mild nausea but that's about it).

So interesting that you mentioned quinoa - I just started switching out potatoes/rice/bread for it too. Really want to try and eat more healthily. It's coming into winter where I live so a bit cold for smoothies, but I've started making soups with lots of veggies in 😀

Please keep us updated on how you're doing. Really hope that the methotrexate starts to kick in soon. Good news about the nails though - they can be so stubborn!! -Catherine, Community Moderator

    2. Hi , thanks for ur reply.

Aside from my PSA, I also have on my scalp, nothing on my skin though. I use Daivobet on my scalp, which was prescribed by my derma here in Singapore. It really helps alot. It softens the dry part of my scalp and after shower they wiped off easily. I dont use it everyday, I alternate it with coconut oil. For me it helps, a lot 😀
